Here’s a poem on the theme of my recent song “Tend Your Heart,” which includes the line: “The darkness needs your light to shine / so be the keeper of your mind.” I want to remember that the most important thing I can do in response to all the suffering I see and hear about is to tend my own mind and follow my own heart.
Loved ones breaking down,
chaos in the news,
tree leaves turning brown—
a heart can catch the blues.
Let mercy fall like leaves,
compassion all around.
Tend the heart that grieves
so its own light may abound.
