🪷 Toward a Kinder World

another poem of processing my feelings about current events

There's a boy in my city
  who just lost his parents
      because they disowned him
         when he came out as gay.

There are families all over
   being brutally torn up
      because they're "illegal"--
         or just in the way.

This cruelty (in the name
   of country and God!)
      keeps keeping me 
         in shock and dismay.

(A younger me once
   cheered for that team--
      how glad I am
         I got away.)

I will keep grieving
   and keep reaching
      toward a kinder world
         someday.
