Mindfulness Math
A poem about starting with my mind's mess and solving for mindfulness
Zero ego equals peace.
Whatever be the path
that gets me there, a given day,
may I find and do the math:

the adding of compassion
and acceptance to my pains;
–
or subtracting words and impulses,
closely holding my inner reins;
÷
or dividing by reciprocal
with counter-stories to those
of blame, shame, and made-up rules
that trap me in their throes;
x
or—best of all–multiplying
awareness on all sides
to exponentially raise my power:
out of my story I rise,
=
no longer “Me,” but just a watcher,
an Eye behind my “I.”
Set my equation to zero ego,
and the rest will simplify.
